A great artist, reserved, solitary, strict, impervious to the lure of media success, unwilling to compromise. Danio Manfredini was rightly defined “the invisible master”, being a key figure for many generations of artists. Al Presente, one of his masterpieces, for which he was awarded the Premio Ubu 1999 for Best Actor, turns twenty: to mark this anniversary, that perfectly matches Danae Festival’s twentieth anniversary, the work has been restaged. Al Presente is a close look at the mind and its elusiveness. On stage, a man and his double: one is motionless, intent, reflective, one is restless and tackles the ghosts living in his mind. Using his imagination, he steps into a flow of unstoppable associations that lead him to different spaces, different moments of his life. In his loneliness, he chases his thoughts, the inner dialogue constantly going on within himself, the anxiousness caused by memories, voices of dear ones, images of a vague and yet present past, and suggestions of the contemporary world. On a totally white stage, Danio Manfredini unfolds a universe of sublime poetry, a kaleidoscope of images, words, songs, characters, emotions that weave and unweave the fabric of life.
